From the market to your mouth: Saint Lucia’s colourful cuisine

The adventure begins at Castries Market, where the Basecampers meet the locally famous chef, Orlando Satchell. Castries is a bustling market, located in heart of the island’s capital that goes by the same name. The colors, the sounds, the sights and the smells live up to the colorful and spicy reputation of Caribbean cuisine. After grabbing ingredients, the group moves to a heritage home with a gorgeous kitchen, called Greenwood Terrace, perched on the outlying hills of Castries. From pumpkin and spinach soup, to Cocoa Mahi Mahi, it was something special. But the adventure doesn’t stop there and continues late into the night and into the heart of a jump-up street party. A perfect way to end the trip: music, drinks, rubbing shoulders with the local people.
