The Damajaqua Cascades are a series of waterfalls located roughly 45 minutes from Cabarete or 25 minutes from Puerto Plata. Most surrounding hotels (Puerto Plata, Suosa and Cabarete regions) offer packaged tours of the waterfalls yet, these tours usually only cover 7 of the 27 waterfalls. If you’re feeling up to it, try getting there on your own, either by renting a car, taxi or guagua (public transport). You’ll then be able to experience the whole series of waterfalls and have the freedom to hang out as long as you want. Get there in the morning to avoid the afternoon crowds and make sure to bring your bathing suit as well as strapped shoes that are made for water. We do not recommend flip flops.
Helping the local community Note: the falls are a protected area with a purpose: 30 pesos or $1 USD dollar of every entrance fee goes toward a community fund that is directly invested in the surrounding communities.
