Travellers heading to Cuba may be asked to present proof of health insurance in order to enter the country (travellers without insurance may obtain coverage in Cuba through the ASISTUR SA).

There are two Cuban currencies:

  1. The Peso (or National Peso)
  2. The Convertible Peso (also commonly referred to as dollar; about 25x more valuable)

Beware: a common scam in Cuba is to give change back in National Pesos when a confused traveler has payed for an item in the Convertible Peso.

The best time to visit Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Santa Maria is between November and April. The temperature is at its best at this time of year. It’s hot and sunny and the perfect time to go and enjoy yourself on all the glorious beaches the area has to offer.
